Meet emerging artist "Yiyo" Partida, whose colorful paintings celebrate non-traditional individuals and are inspired by Mexican stained glass windows. Yiyo's diverse background includes 11 years in a Mexican Folkloric Ballet group, a degree in Communication, and a Master's Degree in Organizational Communication. He has also studied cultural studies and theatrical voice. Yiyo has performed in more than 14 plays and national television programs in Mexico before turning to painting as art therapy during the pandemic. We spoke to the artist who, in just six months, has already made a name for himself as an artist in Alberta.

Pride In Business: What is art for you and how does art influence your life?

Yiyo Partida: Art is something extremely important in my life and it influences in such a positive way, an example of this is that in the pandemic my mood did not drop thanks to the fact that my therapy was to paint.

PIB: How does your art help you tell people about your heritage?

YP: My paintings are based on the stained glass windows of Mexican churches with very striking colours that represent the type of art that is made in Mexico. That way I like to make a declaration of love towards my country and share it with others.

PIB: What mediums do you use to create art?

YP: I like to express my art using acrylic paint on different things ranging from canvases, hats, clothes and many other things because I feel that everything can be a representation of art.

PIB: How does social media influence your art?

YP: Through social networks I have been able to disseminate my pieces and that people who cannot personally attend an exhibition have access to them.
