Exploring the infinite realm of art with Ariadna Sly

Ariadna Sly
Artis: Architect and Painter

Painter Ariadna Sly explores femininity inspired by poetic works of Latin literature. She is inpsired by the shapes of women body, showing the strength and vulnerabilities, to address the connection and similarities with nature. Prior to the Pride In Art Show on May 26, we spoke with Ariadna about how art has been an ever-present force in her life.

Pride In Business: Could you tell us a little bit about you and how you ended up becoming an artist?

Ariadna Sly: One is born an artist and my whole life is connected with art. Drawing, painting, writing, photography and architecture have always been present. It is an internal search that never ends. After graduating from the School of Architecture, I studied arts, I dedicated a large part of my life to practicing my profession as an architect, while drawing and painting. Now I am totally dedicated to painting.

PIB: How does your art affect your identity and what are you trying to say with your subject

matter?

Ariadna Sly
Artis: Architect and Painter

AS: Our identity is intrinsic to oneself, we are what we are and one of the healthiest and most interesting ways to show it is through art. My three pieces in this exhibition express the diversity of creation, the facets of identity, and the introspection to find it.

PIB: How do you navigate the clash of cultures from living in Argentina and now living in

Canada?

AS: Art is infinite, it has no limits as long as it is done well, with appreciation and responsibility. In Argentina, there is a more intense search for ways to express yourself and new approaches to achieve what you want than in Calgary, which is where I have my experience.

PIB: Has that had any effect of your work as an artist?

AS: Everything that happens to us in life is manifested in our art and the need to express ourselves is greater, when we encounter another culture, we feel the emptiness produced by the lack of what is ours.

PIB: What are your biggest influences as an artist?

AS: I have the influence of art itself, the games of light and shadow with its values; the human figure, its volumes, gestures, movements and postures; the abstraction that is color and shape at its best; and more.

PIB: How do you keep yourself motivated to stay creative?

AS: I find the motivation in the search within me in relation to the world around me, the creative is born alone and finds a way to express itself.
