Navigate Your Holiday Finances and Celebrate Stress-Free.

Here’s a guide to navigating holiday finances, emphasizing innovative budgeting, safe shopping practices, and setting gift-giving boundaries. It also underscores the importance of using the holidays as an opportunity to teach children about money for a stress-free celebration.

5 Tips to Save Money During the Holiday Season

1. Budget smarter

• We always hear the same outdated budgeting advice: avoid impulsive buying, avoid holidays sales traps and shop around to find the best deals.

• Here are some new tips: Buy gifts throughout the year and factor in the cost of the delivery.

2. Shop safe

• Online shopping or braving the malls may result in fraudsters getting your credit card or bank account information.

• Always be careful, shop on websites you are familiar with and always keep an eye on your wallet!

3. Gift like a pro

• It can be difficult to find the perfect gift for your kid’s teacher, dog walker or your boss.

• Set Up an amount on a holiday gift for all those helping hands around you.

4. Handle those awkward dinner money conversations

• You just sit at the table and start serving yourself your holiday diner and then the conversation turns into the dreaded subject of money.

• Be proactive about your finances, advise if you don’t want to give a gift, encourage people to not offer too many gifts to your kids, take the time to reflect before borrowing money from someone, answer them 1-on-1 and avoid the subject you are not comfortable answering.

5. Use the holidays to teach kids about money

• Your kids might receive some money from your relatives.

• Take the opportunity to teach them the importance of money, encourage them to save it for a bigger purchase or to put it into a savings account.
